Excerpts from The Harvest of Lesser Burdens

The following excerpts are from The Harvest of Lesser Burdens — Art in the Fields of Medicine. First published in 2006, the work is a collection of poems, paintings, and photographs from the 1998-2003 Artists in Residence Program at the Renown Health Medical Center in Reno, Nevada.

In 1997, Renown Health and the Nevada Museum of Art partnered on the Healing Arts Festival, an exhibition with the theme of "Art That Heals." The success of the exhibition led to the creation of the Artists in Residency program where three selected artists would become, in essence, hospital employees and provide their unique and poignant interpretation of the environment.
