In our life there is a single color, as on an artist's palette, which provides the meaning of life and art. It is the color of love. — Marc Chagall

"Happy is the word I love to hear someone say when describing my art—and is there anything more important to our souls?"

Few things brought me more joy than a new a box of crayons in my youth. What couldn't be done with paper and crayons; I could go anywhere or do anything. I still paint because I love that feeling of doing something so exciting that time flies by.

I started doing these "square" paintings with highlighters and ink in the pages of my sketchbooks over 22 years ago. I realized that I was having more fun working in my sketchbook than painting. So, I changed my direction and style and started to move ahead by finding the fun of painting again. However, translating what I did in my sketch books onto a board or canvas was a challenge. After trial and error with many different mediums, oil paints with their vivid and vibrant colors turned out to be just right.

My subjects range from still life and florals to childhood memories and symbols. I start with a charcoal drawing and then work out the design with loose washes of gesso, afterwards applying squares over the entire drawing, much like a grid. Thin glazes and opaque oils are applied and each square is contained within a dark edge to give them a jewel-like appearance.
