"I love to see the abstract in nature."
My work is about looking and my environment. I need to be in it, and when there it becomes a moment very full for me: seeing, hearing, smelling, and just holding still. It’s exciting following the lines, finding the compositions, watching the sun cover, move, and warm, and finally trying to “get” the colors I see with my palette of primary colors. I love to see the abstract in nature, squinting and closing one eye, imagining a painting. Hopefully these “abstract” designs also have the air I see and feel and the spaces between, the electricity and interaction of the objects. And if I’m lucky I even get the feel of the place.
My paintings need to be about beauty. Maybe in an odd way, almost everything to be can be so. All becomes a composition, a subject, something my eye wants to linger over. In ways I feel as though I am just beginning. I have images of things I hope to paint, places my work has never gone. But the truth now is standing outside, painting what I see, trying to “get it”, sometimes there are hints, and hopefully better next time.
